AMA Queensland President's message:  2026 update

AMA Queensland members may have received a message and invoice from AMA Ltd today. Please note you do not need to pay this invoice to keep your AMA Queensland membership.

All your known and trusted AMA Queensland services are continuing under your existing AMA Queensland membership, including:

  • Union representation
  • Workplace relations
  • Our Council, committees and working groups that advocate tirelessly for medical students, doctors in training, consultant and GP specialists and other key groups like international medical graduates and LGBTQIASB+ doctors and patients
  • Events like our annual conference, women in medicine breakfast, junior and senior doctor conferences and private practice seminars – with 21 already scheduled for next year
  • Membership services, including discounts with our corporate partners and other professional services and products

We are also expanding these services in 2026 and working to:

  • Ensure federal government health policy works for the unique needs of Queensland doctors and patients. For too long Canberra has ignored the realities of practice in Queensland, including frozen MBS rebates and broken funding models. Our members will now have a direct voice to advocate for federal reform that suits them and their patients.
  • Deliver an AMAQ member-only and Queensland-specific MBS guide that reflects the real costs of delivering health care across our vast state. This guide will be free for AMA Queensland members and is anticipated for release in March next year. In the interim, members may like to review the WorkCover Queensland’s Medical Table of Costs which was updated just last week. It provides a public list of current medical fees regarded as reasonable by the Queensland Government for necessary medical treatment.
  • Establish a Queensland-based registered training organisation to deliver micro-credentialling for private practices, including doctors and their staff.
  • Review our fee structure to align it with members’ needs.

AMA Queensland has represented our members for 131 years and will continue working hard to ensure Queensland doctors are supported no matter their career stage or location. The team will provide updates as this work rolls out so keep an eye on your regular communications and our website.

Our membership team also stands ready to assist with any questions members may have – just phone 07 3872 2222 or email [email protected]

I thank every member for your ongoing support.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Nick Yim
President
AMA Queensland
